From the 1970 Yearbook

Once again this year Kearny High was well represented in the arena of girls’ sports. The Girls’ Athletic Association, more commonly known as GAA, is one of the most active groups on campus. Its stalwart members have participated in such sports as Tennis, Track, Badminton, Volleyball, Field Hockey, Rifle Club, and Gymnastics. Most sports consist of a varsity team which competes against girls from other Western League schools. By practicing after school, competing in varsity meets, and helping out on various GAA projects and functions, girls in the club may earn points, as they strive to achieve the coveted position of Lettergirls. Aside from its regular competitive activities, GAA sponsors candy sales, a Welcoming Party for sophomores in September, a Spring Picnic, and the Annual Awards Banquet, which is held in June. This year GAA was honored as it presented a fourth-place float at Homecoming, with the appropriately entitled theme of “Charlie Brown’s All-Stars.”
